RUN, VIV, RUN! Aahh, the holidays in Boston. The students will soon GTFO, the Red Sox fans have gone into hibernation, Harpoon and Sam Adams are churning out delicious seasonal beers, the USPS is still faithfully delivering your Netflix, and there's a handful of paid vacation days in there so you don't actually HAVE to leave your apartment for any reason whatsoever.Or, you could strip down nearly naked and run through the Back Bay. I have chosen the latter. I'm embarking on a journey of several miles this December--first the Jolly Jaunt 5K run on December 5th, then hot on its heels, the Santa Speedo Run on December 12th. These are both runs for charity. The Jolly Jaunt is raising money for the MA Special Olympics, and the Santa Speedo Run is raising money for Crossroads 4 Kids and Bottom Line (my donations will be going to Bottom Line). I am striving to raise $150 for the Jolly Jaunt (minimum requirement is $100), and $500 for the Santa Speedo Run ($250 is the minimum). Any donations you would like to make to my fundraising efforts are deeply appreciated, as I will not be able to participate if I don't make the minimum donation (and yes, I have given a donation to myself on both counts). Because this is a capitalist economy and I believe in giving people something for their money, I invite all locals to come down and heckle the ever-loving hell out of me during both events, assuming you have donated. If you haven't donated, you are limited to supportive cheering, declarations of undying love, and fawning all over my beautiful running physique when I cross the finish line. That's not NEARLY as much fun as heckling, so please, give generously. In all seriousness, though, these are both causes that I am eager to support. The MA Special Olympics is a fantastic organization doing great things for people who are all too often looked-over. Bottom Line is striving to help kids who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity to get into college and stay in college. If you know me, you know how much I love and value education and academia; raising money for Bottom Line means so much to me and I am so proud to be contributing to their mission. I need your help though, so please help me raise money to help change lives for the better in incredibly meaningful ways. Here's your chance to strike back against evil in our world! Stand up for truth, justice, and my crazy endeavors: Vivienne Pustell is a really big geek who inexplicably decided this was a good idea. When not making foolish life decisions, she works at Boston University and spends her free time either in front of a sewing machine or in front of a book. Sometimes she tries to do both, and that falls into the "foolish life decisions" category. Turns out sewing your fingers hurts. |
